ACSV represents the private sector of the land surveying profession in this Victoria. ACSV is an autonomous body, dedicated to the continued development of a prosperous private sector of the surveying industry, which provides services of the highest quality for the benefit of society. It sees its role to advise member firms to develop, maintain and provide an efficient service for the benefit of the community. At present ACSV represents over 100 private practicing surveying firms in Victoria. The benefits include: - Effective representation by ACSV and Executive to numerous Boards, Advisory Committees, Government Bodies, Land registry and Authorities on behalf of members.
- ACSV is a Member of various business groups' e.g. Kindred Industry Group and Building Design Professions (Victoria) the interests of ACSV firms can be promoted and protected.
- Due to Lobbying and action directly by ACSV Executive, financial benefits have been obtained for member firms in obtaining information and data from service authorities (e.g. Yarra Valley) free of any charges. These benefits reflect the "trade offs" for the considerable time, effort and work undertaken by ACSV Executive and Members in formulating policy and procedures by which the supply companies interact with consultants and the development industry.
- ACSV has entered into an agreement with Land Victoria to create copies of CDs which cover the Scanned Charts, Parish Plans and Township Plans for the whole of the State of Victoria.
- ACSV has been successful in its negotiations with the Land Victoria to obtain field notes and Reports, free of charge for surveyors.

- ACSV is a member of a large number of allied professional groups and organizations and monitors a huge volume of publications and material form these organizations. These Publications and material are examined and important relevant to Members can then be provided either through The Consulting Surveyor, other publications, and/or seminars.
- ACSV provides Members with a considerable service by monitoring, advising and representing Members in matters relating to industrial relations and the minefield which has been created with Unions and union disputes.
- ACSV represents member firms on advisory committees to Melbourne University, RMIT and other tertiary institutions in an effort to promote the standing of the professional Surveyor, not only within the public sector but also with the academic arena.
- ACSV promotes, conducts and manages seminars, workshops and meetings, which are provided to assist in the day to day operation of their businesses and to ensure that Members are up to date with legislative changes and "best Practice" initiatives.
- ACSV promotes a cooperative and healthy interchange of information and ideals with state government instrumentalities, local councils and service authorities. The association is highly regarded in its dealings with these bodies and its advice is eagerly sought and appreciated.

Eligibility for ACSV Membership |

|
Nature of member firms - a) a sole practitioner firm; or
- b) a partnership of two or more individuals; or
- c) a company or unit holder in a trust.
Member Firm representation - a) the sole practitioner, or
- b) the partners of the firm, or
- c) the directors of the company or unit holder in a trust;
- d) nominated manager within a partnership, company or unit holder in a trust.
Requirements for member firm Representatives - a) be eligible for Corporate Membership of The Institution of Surveyors, Australia, or hold professional qualifications and/or have business experience acceptable to the Executive of the Association;
- b) spend the greater part of normal business hours in the private practice of surveying and/or related profession;
- c) be honest, diligent, efficient, courteous and behave with decorum and propriety in the provision of a service to the public reflecting credit on the profession; and
- d) the Association of Consulting Surveyors Victoria encourages representatives of Member Firms to abide by The Institution of Surveyors Victoria Code of Ethics, where appropriate. The Association requires that its Member Firms conform to the Association's Mission Statement which is "The Association is dedicated to the continued development of a prosperous private sector of the surveying profession which provides services of the highest quality for the benefit of Society".
Requirements on Member firms - a) Maintain a proper office and the name displayed or under which the practice is conducted shall not, in the opinion of the Executive, be misleading or objectionable;
- b) hold and maintain a professional indemnity insurance policy satisfactory to the Executive; and
- c) supply proof of such policy to the satisfaction of the Executive with each membership application and/or subscription.
- The requirements of Clause 6.4 (c) of these Rules may, at the discretion of the Executive be waived upon the provision to the Executive, of evidence satisfactory to the Executive that such waiver is in accord with the objects of the Association and in the best interests of the profession of surveying.
Rights of member firm representative - a) shall have the right to attend any general meeting of the Association, to participate in discussion on any matter brought before the meeting, and to vote; and
- b) shall be eligible for election as a member of the Executive.

Continuing education, scientific, and technical research - To provide and arrange programmes for the continuing education of the members of the Association.
- To establish, form and maintain a library and collection of models, designs, drawings and other articles of interest in connection with surveying or its associated callings for the benefit of the community and members of the Association.
- To conduct, research, promote, develop and advance the scientific and technical aspects of any matters relating to surveying or its associated callings.
- To collect, record, distribute, publish and disseminate information and statistics of any kind on matters relating to, connected with, affecting or useful to surveyors.
- To hold meetings and provide facilities for the reading of papers, delivery of lectures and holding of discussions and debate upon subjects relating to surveying and its associated callings.
- To facilitate the interchange of ideas with respect to surveying and its associated callings and to provide for the publication, dissemination and acquisition of information connected with such matters.
Promotion of Profession of Surveying and the Association - To conserve and promote the interests and status of the profession of surveying and generally to represent the profession and, in particular, the members of the Association.
- To foster, maintain and preserve the integrity and status of members of the Association, to promote practice, to repress malpractice, and to encourage actively observance of The Institution of Surveyors Victoria Code of Ethics and the Association's Guide for Survey Fees.
- To initiate, participate or assist in activities and schemes for enhancing the status of the profession of consulting surveyors and the general advancement of its members and to cooperate with other associations and organisations having similar objectives.
- To maintain and make available to the public an up to date list of member firms of the Association.
- To advance and protect the interest of its members as employers and in relation to any industrial matter.
- To promote and foster projects and activities which are in the interest of the surveying profession generally or in the interests of the members in particular.
Relationship with kindred bodies - To conserve, foster and maintain a close liaison with The Institution.
- To submit for endorsement to the Executive Committee of The Institution of Surveyors, Victoria, the Guide for Survey Fees for Consulting Surveying Services.
- To cooperate with the Association of Consulting Surveyors of each of the States and Territories of Australia having objects similar to the Association.
